Mountains in the Sky

Driving around Austin today, Saturday July 12, I couldn't help but notice the volume and height and beauty of the many gigantic and immeasurably tall thunderclouds in the sky.  I have been deeply touched by the tragedy and loss of life of so many, including so many precious innocent young children in the recent floods. My heart has felt pried open and raw. I am sure many relate.   So when I got home I wrote this, not to deny any suffering but as a humble attempt at tribute.   


Mountains In The Sky.  

Are these the same clouds that brought the flood?  
We didn't go to the mountains but God brought the mountains to us. 
Thunderclouds of the Texas skies, 
 as glorious as any mountain range on earth, 
when seen through fresh eyes. 
Vaulted. Vast. 
High, layered, majestic. 
Peaks, secondary summits. 
Foothills and new clusters. 
Ever changing and flowing. 
Dancing, unfolding, 
rising, cascading in the wind. 
Painting living terrains of  magical shapes, 
magnificent scapes. 
The 3 dimensional canvas of open sky. 
My entire field of mortal vision fills
with the palette of colors impossible to reproduce with humans hands.  
The reflections of sunlight, 
glancing and refracting 
every hue, tone and vibration 
of light and color,  
splash and spray,  
shine and recede 
off once white monuments 
now a thousand shades of pink and gold. 
Every shade and shadow in between.
Only a small taste falls in range of my human eye. 
I am awestruck 
and can only witness
in silent reverence 
what I DO see. 
How much more is there, 
that I don't yet see?  
For what I AM given, I give thanks.  
Lord let me more fully receive 
what is all around me, 
what I am bathed with everyday.
Open me to the greater perfection.
